It seems like to me at least, that the Magic class has been viewed as inferior when compared to the other choices of Ranged and Melee. So what I'm proposing, is to develop some method of "upgrading" magic weapons like Frontier, Dark Toad, and so forth.
Main Concept:
What I'm thinking would be an interesting way to add these upgrades would be through a certain series of trails that players can attempt to clear and receive specific modifications to their weapons.
How it would play out:
Requirements to attempt the trials would be to firstly:
Already own the magic weapons
Only use it for the respective trial.
I believe it would also be interesting to develop unique battles and monsters that are built around the qualities of the spell it was meant for.
After players have completed what could resemble a "mini tower run", they would acquire upgrades to the spells they had completed the trial for. Let's say for example, the Darktoad Spellbook's "life steal" would change from:
[7 health points+10% of its magic bonus]
to
[7 health points+14% of its magic bonus]
The upgrades would also effect the "specials" of each weapon, for example, with the Darktoad again:
The ability to also aim it vertically and to be able change the distance of the blast according to mouse placement
A sort of gravitational effect, similar to Overwatch Orisa's Halt!
Thanks for taking time to read my speculation on improving the magic system, and I hope you have a good day!
